Joel Manigault, a 35-year-old single father fighting against Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a progressive degenerative eye disease, is reaching out to compassionate individuals and organizations for support in raising $20,000 for his treatment in India.
RP is a genetic disorder of the eyes that causes loss of vision. Symptoms include trouble seeing at night and decreasing peripheral vision (side and upper or lower visual field).
RP has been gradually stealing his sight since his childhood. However, it was not until 2013 that he was formally diagnosed with this relentless condition.
As Joel Manigault’s world gradually fades into darkness, he confronts the harsh reality that without intervention, he may lose the ability to see the faces of his loved ones or enjoy the beauty of the world around him.
His declining vision imposes growing limitations, hindering his ability to work and support his family.
In an interview with Citi News on Friday, Mr Manigault revealed that the only available treatment for his condition is at the Med Treat Care Centre in New Delhi, India, as such treatment is not available in the country.
He noted that the required amount encompassed the medical procedures, travel, accommodation, and post-treatment care.
To Mr. Manigault, the amount signifies more than just a monetary value; it represents the gateway to a future filled with possibilities, where he can once again delight in seeing his daughter’s smile and navigate the world with renewed confidence.
He sincerely implores everyone to contribute towards restoring his vision and ensuring a brighter future for himself and his daughter.
