Philemon Laar, a lawyer and communication team member of the National Democratic Congress, asserts that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia isn’t suited for the driver’s seat.
His remarks follow Dr. Bawumia’s presentation of his vision for Ghana during his address to the nation in Accra on Wednesday, February 7.
During his speech, the NPP flagbearer urged Ghanaians to elect him as the next president to empower him to implement policies aimed at advancing the nation’s growth, using the analogy of a driver’s mate.
The Vice President emphasized that he has gleaned insights from the seven years of the Akufo-Addo government and has reevaluated his aspirations for the country.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that despite his analogy of being the driver’s mate, “if, by the grace of God, you make me president, I will be in the driver’s seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities.”
However, during an appearance on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, Mr. Laar asserted that the country and Ghanaians at large are not secure under the leadership of the new flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party.
He said, “Indeed, he’s a mate, and a mate can never be a driver, because a mate is a mate. You have to be a co-pilot to be able to pilot a plane, if he (Bawumia) wants to be a pilot he makes time and goes to an aviation school.”
The NDC communicator also highlighted specific policies and decisions made by the Vice President that he, Mr. Laar, believes indicate Dr. Bawumia’s inadequacy for the position.
The lawyer remarked that the Vice President’s policies have not adequately addressed the populace’s needs. He further asserted that the NPP flagbearer lacks the requisite experience and leadership qualities necessary for the presidency.
“If we put a man like Dr Bawumia on the streets of this country, he’ll end up killing pedestrians because he has no credentials, skills, and capacity to drive,” he told the host.
