The Executive Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the 2023 African Games, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare has disagreed with Kobena Woyome who described the continental event as a “monumental disaster”.
Ghana hosted the Games which officially lasted for 16 days, for the first time in its history, winning 69 medals.
However, the Ranking Member on the Youth and Sports Committee of Parliament, believed the event was poorly organized, “shambolic” despite spending a “staggering $240 million”.
In reaction to the criticism, Mr. Ofosu-Asare said: “He is entitled to his view and I disagree with him to a larger extent. Let’s assess the social capital hosting the Games has brought to Ghana, it is not about money,” he told JoySports.
“To me, to a larger extent, it was very successful. We may have out pitfalls, there may be challenges. There is no way you can get everything perfect especially in our current climate.”
54 countries participated in 29 sports disciplines at nine venues during the Games.
