The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has suggested that President Nana Akufo-Addo seems to have acknowledged the likelihood of his New Patriotic Party (NPP) losing the upcoming December 7 elections.
Mahama expressed this viewpoint during a campaign rally in Biakoye, Oti Region, on Monday, November 4, as he continues his nationwide tour to garner support from the electorate.
He noted that recent statements from President Akufo-Addo reflect a change in tone, implying that the President is preparing for the possibility of transferring power to the NDC.
In his remarks, Mahama referred to Akufo-Addo’s recent pledge for a peaceful transition, in which the President assured Ghanaians that he would transfer power to the victor of the election.
For Mahama, Akufo-Addo’s pledge represents more than a mere democratic assurance; he interprets it as an implicit recognition that the ruling NPP may be on the verge of defeat.
“The reason you must vote for the NDC is that we will go after all who have stolen from the public purse. Dr Bawumia cannot hold them accountable. That was why he said he would not hand over power to me.
“But recently, I heard him say he will hand over power to whoever wins. It is just because he knows that the NPP is about to lose the election. He knows that John Dramani Mahama is coming back to the Jubilee House.”
