Ernest Owusu-Bempah Bonsu, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Head of Corporate Communications for the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), has urged for a comprehensive investigation into the recent statement made by a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwesi Ahwoi, regarding “anything can happen.”
Owusu-Bempah emphasized that Ahwoi’s statement was not made in isolation when he confidently asserted to John Mahama’s running mate, Prof. Nana Opoku-Agyeman, that she should prepare to assume the presidency as “anything can happen,” drawing a parallel with President Mills giving way for John Mahama.
Stressing Ahwoi’s integral role within the NDC, Owusu-Bempah asserted that Ahwoi is well-informed about the internal affairs of the party.
“We need to investigate this, the implications of Ahwoi’s statement are damning, he knows what he was saying, he knows too much, Ahwoi knows what’s in his head. In another country, security agencies would have come to arrest him” Owusu-Bempah said to Nana Yaa Brefo and Isaac Ekow JB on Onua FM’s Y3n Ns3mpa.
Adding that if he “decides to talk about the death of the late president, the image of NDC party will forever be tarnished with no hope of survival” as he has information from sources to prove this allegation.
Background
While speaking at an event, Ahwoi alluded to the unforeseen circumstances that led to John Mahama’s ascension to the presidency following the demise of late former President J.E. A Mills.
Ahwoi’s remarks, captured in a widely circulated video, elicited mixed reactions among the attendees.
“John Mahama was not ready to be president at the time but nature schemed things in such a way that President Mills had to give way to John Mahama.
“Anything can happen, so, Naana, be ever prepared, as your motto says. Anything can happen and you can become the President of the Republic of Ghana,” he advised.
