Ansa-Asare asserts, “Dame’s actions do not represent the interests of the entire nation; he should step down.”

Former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, has renewed his demand for the resignation of the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah-Dame, despite recent developments in court on Thursday, June 6.

This call comes in the wake of a leaked tape involving Mr. Dame and Richard Jakpa, a defendant in the ongoing ambulance procurement case.

Mr. Ansa-Asare argues that the prolonged tenure of Godfred Yeboah-Dame in office poses a threat to the integrity of the nation’s justice system. He contends that such a high-ranking official should embody impartiality and integrity, qualities that Mr. Dame’s actions have undermined.

The furor surrounding the leaked telephone conversation was exacerbated by the recent ruling of the Accra High Court, which dismissed requests for an inquiry into the conduct of the Attorney General.

This ruling was one of four distinct decisions handed down by the court on Thursday, June 6.

The court’s rulings were prompted by several applications submitted by the first accused person and the third accused, Richard Jakpa. These applications aimed to examine the actions and role of the Attorney General in the ongoing case.

Despite the judge’s firm recommendation for the Attorney General to step aside from the case, he has expressed determination to continue prosecuting it until its resolution.

During an appearance on News File on JoyNews on Saturday, June 8, Prof. Ansa-Asare reiterated his position that Godfred Yeboah-Dame should resign.

He underscored that stepping down would be the honorable path to take in response to the allegations and the court’s decision not to pursue further investigation.

“Having listened to the tape, I think the AG is not doing justice to the whole nation. Mind you, the AG under our constitution is the guardian and the protector of the principle of justice. So he is the guardian and defender of the public interest.”

“Here we are, and if you listened to Richard Jakpa, he kept saying to the AG that you and I have been discussing this matter at my cousin’s house and didn’t tell us the number of times the AG, Godfred Dame and him have met and this amounts to witness tampering,” he stated.
