The Chief of Anitemfi in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Kwame Abebrese, has expressed concern over the absence of electricity in approximately thirty communities in the area.
He highlighted that the lack of power supply is significantly hindering the educational progress of students, particularly in the field of ICT.
In addition to the electricity issue, the chief also pointed out that poor mobile network connectivity remains a major challenge for the residents.
Nana Kwame Abebrese said, “Education is now technology-based. When your child is going to school, he will need a tablet or laptop. But we don’t have electricity in this community, so how do our children benefit? We are not connected to the Internet as well.”
The Chief further explained that the lack of electricity is also impacting healthcare delivery: “The clinic needs to store some medications in a refrigerator, but there’s no electricity.”
When the NDC campaign team arrived in Anitemfi, they were greeted by complete darkness. Despite the power outage, a large crowd of voters had gathered, eager to hear the NDC’s campaign message.
NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who described his visit as part of a “retail campaign,” expressed his disappointment at the community’s continued deprivation.
He stated that the next NDC government is dedicated to improving the living conditions of residents in small communities.
“The cameras have captured the level of deprivation here. This is an NPP stronghold but little development have been seen since they took over power. After 28 years of voting NPP, there is no electricity, Roads are also poor”, he said.
To improve the economic well-being of residents, the NDC Chairman assured that the party would ensure a portion of the revenue generated from the cocoa trade is reinvested into these communities.
