Ashanti Region ECG Workers Union ban 4 general managers from attending REGSEC meetings

The Workers Union of the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Ashanti Region has banned four general managers from attending any Regional Security Council (REGSEC) meetings.

The General Managers of Ashanti East, West, South, and Sub-Transmission hold automatic membership on the Council.

However, following an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee of the Senior and Junior Workers Union of ECG, it was decided to bar these managers from attending Council meetings.

This ban will remain in effect until Simon Osei Mensah, who serves as both the Chairman of the Council and Regional Minister, issues an official apology to the General Manager of Ashanti West for unlawfully ordering his arrest.

The workers described the Ashanti Regional Minister’s conduct as unprofessional for ordering the arrest of Michael Wiafe.

This was after Mr Wiafe failed to comply with orders to reconnect Kumasi Technical University following a disconnection by a team from ECG headquarters due to the school’s unpaid bills.

The workers have since last week demanded an unqualified apology from Mr Osei Mensah or face their wrath.

In solidarity with their colleague, all workers of ECG across the country will from Wednesday wear red attire and hoist red flags in protest of his unlawful arrest.

Both the Senior and Junior Workers Unions of the power company are demanding an unqualified apology from Simon Osei Mensah and the discontinuation of the case.
