Azamati Denies Reports Suggesting His 100m Victory Was Due to Weather Conditions

Benjamin Azamati, Ghana’s fastest sprinter, has dismissed reports suggesting that his second-place finish in the Men’s 100m semi-final of the 2023 African Games was attributed to weather conditions in Ghana.

The men’s 100m final included Benjamin Azamati, who holds the Ghanaian 100m record with a time of 9.97 seconds, and Barnabas Aggerh, competing in his first-ever outdoor event.

Azamati and Aggerh finished fifth and sixth respectively in a time of 10.45 seconds and 10.50 seconds.

Azamati, who helped his team finish first in the 4x100m relay on 19 March, disclosed to GHOne Sports that he has just started a new season, so the results are normal.

“And I think I saw it somewhere about someone saying I blame the weather for my times yesterday and all that. I would like to clarify that that was not it. I was asked to compare, you know, coming from the cold and then coming to, you know, run in Ghana, which I did explain but I don’t know why everything was changed, but you know, things happen in journalism”.

Benjamin Azamati returned to the men’s 4×100 relay with a passionate competitive spirit, ran one of his finest sprints, and led the team to an easy victory finishing in 38.67 seconds, Ghana came in first.

“It’s a good group of guys, you know, having to come together, I mean Joy and I have run, but we had to use it two different legs, which I think they did really well”.

“We don’t give up regardless of whatever that happens. and then my teammates were looking up to me, so I had to go in there and give them my a game, which I did regardless of whatever that happened in the 100 m and there are still more opportunities to run fast and call up Olympic Games, So I had to concentrate on the 4×100 which Ghanaians are expecting us to defend our titles, and then I was able to do that,” he added.
