Bawumia: Elections Should Focus on Ideas, Not Violence

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has urged Ghanaian voters to prioritize peace before, during, and after the upcoming December 7 general elections.

In a series of addresses to congregants at various churches in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency of the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, September 1, Dr. Bawumia stressed that while elections are crucial for shaping the nation’s future, they should center on the exchange of ideas rather than violence.

Accompanied by NPP Parliamentary aspirant Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Anyaa-Sowutuom MP Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, and other party leaders, Dr. Bawumia visited several churches, including Hills Pentecostal Church, Mandela Assembly of the Church of Pentecost, New Jerusalem Presbyterian Church, and Ayigbe Town District of the Church of Pentecost. He also visited the Disciples of Christ Ministries, led by Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah.

During his visits, Dr. Bawumia cited Matthew 19:26 and encouraged the clergy to pray for the country, for himself, and for the NPP’s parliamentary candidates.

In the Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency, Dr. Bawumia received a warm welcome from traders and pedestrians at the Ablekuma-Pokuase intersection, where he promoted his “Bold Solutions” message. He assured supporters that, if elected President, he would create job opportunities by training one million youth in digital skills.

Dr. Bawumia also engaged with local clergy, imams, chiefs, and opinion leaders at Pentecost University, where he discussed government policies, including the Free SHS and free technical and vocational education programs.

He emphasized the importance of reinstating nursing and teacher training allowances and advancing the construction of Agenda 111 hospitals.

Dr. Bawumia also highlighted the government’s introduction of the Zongo Development Fund, designed to enhance Zongo communities through the establishment of ICT centers, improved sanitation, and scholarships for students from these communities to study medicine in Cuba.
