Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has praised the introduction of the Ghana Card Number at birth as a pivotal step towards revolutionizing the country’s identity system.

This initiative, designed to merge birth registration with national identity systems, holds the potential to redefine how citizens are acknowledged and esteemed right from birth.

Speaking at the launch event in Accra on Thursday, March 14, 2024, Dr. Bawumia underscored the significance of this milestone in Ghana’s digital transformation journey.

“The Ghana Card Number at birth is not just an ID; it’s a promise to our children of a future where their identity and rights are recognized from their very first breath,” remarked Dr. Bawumia.

“This initiative lays the groundwork for a digital ecosystem that empowers every citizen, from birth, and represents a significant step towards leveraging technology for national progress,” he added.

He emphasized its significance in simplifying birth registration processes and guaranteeing that every Ghanaian, from the instant of birth, is acknowledged and esteemed within the national identity structure.

Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed the government’s dedication to modernizing Ghana’s identity management systems, aiming for efficient service provision, and protecting the rights of citizens, particularly mothers and children.

He expressed gratitude to all partners involved in making the Ghana Card Number at Birth project a reality and emphasized the collective effort required to build an effective, efficient, and responsive public sector.
