All indications suggest that traditional and religious leaders in the country will have significant roles in governance if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is elected president in 2025.
The Bawumia-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration aims to collaborate with chiefs and clergy to address the increasing moral decay in the country.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP, also known as ‘Napo,’ emphasized this commitment and expressed his concerns about the decline of moral values in Ghanaian society.
He noted that Dr. Bawumia shares concerns about the rising instances of moral decay among the citizenry, particularly among the youth, who represent the future leadership. He recognizes that traditional and religious leaders hold significant respect and influence in the country, positioning them as key partners in addressing this issue.
“Dr Bawumia, when God willing he becomes the president, will collaborate with chiefs and religious leaders to address moral decadence among some of the populace”, he said.
While addressing chiefs and religious leaders at Debiso in the Western North Region, Napo emphasized that a country’s development is hindered by individuals who lack moral integrity.
“Moral decay will lead to unnecessary issues such as corruption, stealing, robberies, teenage pregnancies, division, and all the negative things you can think about.
“In a nutshell, we cannot develop properly as a country with a population which is morally bankrupt, and that’s why Dr Bawumia will involve chiefs and the clergy to fight moral decay”.
Napo stated that as the country strives for transformation, addressing issues of moral decay should be a top priority.
“The country’s developmental aspirations would be expedited greatly if the citizenry, who are the human resource and engine for development, are morally upright”.
Napo affirmed that Dr. Bawumia is dedicated and prepared to work alongside community leaders to effectively address the specific challenges facing their societies.
He stated that Dr. Bawumia recognizes the vital contributions of stakeholders and community leaders in combating moral decay, and “he shall strengthen it as president”.
In closing, Napo fervently urged his audience to vote for Dr. Bawumia on December 7 to continue the remarkable achievements of the NPP administration.
