Cecilia Dapaah Controversy: Domelevo, Gyampo, and 100 Others Petition Parliament to Investigate EOCO’s Actions

Several prominent Ghanaians, including former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo, have petitioned Parliament for a bipartisan investigation into the actions of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) regarding the investigation of a stash of money found at the residence of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.

The group, which also includes outspoken anti-graft campaigner Martin Kpebu, security analyst Dr. Adam Bona, academic Professor Ransford Gyampo, and over 100 other individuals from various backgrounds, argue in their petition that EOCO had sufficient grounds to investigate the former Minister for potential money laundering. They claim that Dapaah has been inconsistent and unable to provide a credible source for the substantial amount of money seized at her residence by the Special Prosecutor.

“The failure to explain the source of the money should have been the cornerstone of the investigation,” the petition which was submitted to Parliament on Thursday, May 16, 2024, noted among oth

The group also expressed concerns about what they described as EOCO’s deliberate neglect to take measures to safeguard the money confiscated from the former minister’s residence by the OSP.

“Upon receipt of the docket, EOCO did not act timeously to seize the money that the OSP was returning to Madam Cecilia Dapaah as publicly stated by the OSP”.

The petition also highlighted EOCO’s inconsistency in their public statements and actions regarding the investigation. This development arises amidst the ongoing standoff between state anti-corruption agencies examining the former Minister regarding the discovered money stash.

The OSP has openly asserted that EOCO exhibits reluctance to investigate the matter, despite the comprehensive information it has provided to them.
