Authorities have reported a total of 56 cholera cases since the outbreak began in the Kasoa enclave, which initially recorded around five cases.
Currently, 46 patients are hospitalized and responding to treatment, while the death toll remains at five, as reported last week.
Of the recorded cases, 15 involve residents of Kasoa, with the remaining cases linked to individuals from neighboring districts, including Gomoa East and Ga South.
Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), made this announcement after visiting the Kasoa area for a stakeholders meeting on Monday. He stated that the Service has implemented a plan to ensure effective treatment and mitigate the spread of cholera, particularly from healthcare facilities.
He also announced that the situation has improved in the Ada area, where the outbreak initially began.
Meanwhile, he urged all regional health departments to remain vigilant and implement preventive measures against the spread of cholera. Additionally, he advised the public to maintain high standards of hygiene and sanitation.
“Let’s ensure that we keep a sanitary environment around us. We wash our hands all the time as we were doing in COVID time. Schools must ensure that they have WASH facilities, and running water to wash their hands with soap, workplaces must have that, and marketplaces must do all the needful to ensure that a sanitary environment is important. So that even if someone has it you don’t get it,” he stated.
