The Ho High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the validity of John Peter Amewu’s election as Member of Parliament for Hohoe, citing lack of jurisdiction.
Approximately 17,000 voters from the Santrofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) enclave, encompassing 13 communities, were excluded from the 2020 parliamentary elections and have been without representation in the 8th Parliament following the reorganization that created the Oti Region from the Volta Region.
Five residents from SALL petitioned the Ho High Court to nullify the election of John Peter Amewu as MP.
During the final hearing, Amewu introduced three new issues to the case, a move that the NDC in the region has criticized as an attempt to delay proceedings.
However, in its ruling on Monday, July 29, 2024, the court stated that the declaration sought by the petitioners effectively challenges the constitutionality of CI 128, which the Electoral Commission relied on to conduct the 2020 parliamentary elections.
