Ghana is mourning the death of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, a high life legend whose music has shaped generations. His passing on July 29, 2025, sparked an outpouring of grief from across the political spectrum. Both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) issued heartfelt tributes, calling his death a national loss.

In a statement signed by NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party praised Daddy Lumba as a cultural giant who “transcended every barrier” and united Ghanaian through music. “He was loved and admired by every citizen,” the NDC said, adding that the party stands ready to support his family during this difficult time.

The NPP, through General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, described Daddy Lumba as a “national treasure” whose music brought comfort and joy to millions. The party also highlighted his role in political campaigns, referencing the iconic track “Nana Ye Winner” which became an anthem during their 2008, 2012, and 2016 campaigns. “The power behind those songs was recognized even by our opponents,” the statement said.

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo described Daddy Lumba as “a pantheon among musical greats” and mourned the loss of both a national icon and a personal friend. Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia echoed these sentiments, calling the loss a “major blow” to both the music industry and the country. “His compositions didn’t just entertain; they uplifted our national spirit,” he wrote on Facebook.
