Flowerpot Flyover Scheduled to Open to Traffic by October

The flyover on the Motorway Interchange at Flowerpot is set to open to traffic by the end of October this year.

Once operational, it will enhance traffic connectivity between the northern and southern parts of the Motorway, facilitating easier movement from areas such as Cantonments and Burma Camp to East Legon, Spintex, and Tema. This development is expected to significantly improve the overall quality of life for residents and commuters in these areas.

Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister of Roads and Highways, disclosed this during an inspection tour of the project on Friday. Accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Roads and Highways and Urban Roads, Mr. Asenso-Boakye assessed the progress of the project firsthand.

“So far, I am very impressed about the schedule of work. Since I assumed office, I have had the opportunity to meet with the contractors and urged them that it is important that they complete as soon as possible,” he said.

He assured of the Government’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the contract, including timely payments and providing all necessary support to ensure the contractors can complete the work on schedule.

Additionally, the Roads Minister conducted inspections of roads in the Ledzokuku Municipality. He was joined by Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the Ledzokuku Constituency.

The road network within the Municipality experienced rapid deterioration in recent years due to the reconstruction of the Beach Road, resulting in increased traffic diversion to inner roads.

These affected roads include Tsui Bleoo, Fertilizer, King Kotey, A Street, 3rd Avenue, Ford, and Nuumo Maashie Roads. The ongoing works, which involve drainage repairs and asphalt concrete overlay, have reached an estimated completion rate of 45% and are scheduled for full completion by the end of 2024.

Addressing the progress of the construction of the Beach Road spanning from Osu to Nungua, which was reported to be 80% complete, Mr. Asenso-Boakye acknowledged that the project had encountered delays due to negotiations between the Government and the International Monetary Fund.

Nevertheless, he assured that significant progress had been made in these negotiations and that work would soon recommence to finish the remaining 20%.

Mr. Asenso-Boakye also commended Dr. Okoe Boye for consistently highlighting the road challenges faced by the community to the Government’s attention.

During his visit to the Krowor Municipality, the Roads Minister conducted an inspection of the rehabilitation works on the Okpoi Gonno Highway, which serves as a vital link connecting Ledzokuku to Krowor.

This highway also serves as a crucial connection between the Beach Road, Spintex Road, and the Motorway, linking several strategic communities.

“It forms part of Government’s agenda to deal with the transportation issues in heavily populated communities such as Krowor and Ledzokuku,” Mr Asenso-Boakye said, concerning the rehabilitation of the highway.

He was impressed about the work so far and assured of Government’s commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the project.
