GPL 2023/24: Nations FC climb to the top of the table following their victory over Great Olympics

Newcomers Nations Football Club have ascended to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings after clinching a victory over Great Olympics.

Facing Olympics at home during matchday 23 of the top flight, Nations found themselves trailing Samartex by just two points in the league standings.

However, a late goal by Razak Simpson propelled Kasim Mingle’s side above the Samreboi-based team temporarily, securing the coveted top spot.

In a closely contested match with limited chances for both sides, the game appeared to be heading towards a draw.

Nevertheless, Simpson’s decisive strike changed the narrative.

The midfielder stepped up to take a setpiece close to the penalty box in the dying minutes of the game. His belter moved past the wall and beat the Olympics goalkeeper to give Nations FC the lead.

The win now means they are now a point above Samartex, who have played a game less, and seven points clear of Aduana in third.

Olympics, however, now sit 11th on the league log and could drop further depending on results from other games this weekend.
