GPL Update: Olympics Draw with Dreams FC, Eager to Exit Relegation Zone

Accra Great Olympics

Accra Great Olympics held FA Cup Champions, Dreams FC, to a goalless draw in a remarkable Ghana Premier League match at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This Wednesday’s outcome signifies Olympics’ departure from the relegation zone, with only two games left. With 39 points secured before today’s fixture, Olympics required a positive result to enhance their prospects of remaining in the Premier League.

However, the Dade Boys faced a resolute Dreams defense that conceded no ground throughout the afternoon. Despite starting the match in the relegation zone, Oly displayed an attacking mindset but encountered a formidable obstacle in goalkeeper Solomon Agbesi.

Dreams’ shot-stopper was tested by Isaac Mensah midway through the first half, demonstrating his agility with a crucial save to deny the scoring opportunity.

Just before halftime, Agbesi once again proved pivotal, thwarting Emmanuel Antwi’s goal-bound effort with an impressive save.

Resuming play after halftime, Dreams attempted to control the game’s tempo with precise passing, yet struggled to maintain possession against Oly’s determined pressure.

The second half mirrored the first, with Agbesi thwarting Olympics’ attempts twice: first, a header from Kekeli Attor midway through the second half, and later, a shot from Gladson Awako towards the end of the game.

Olympics must now secure victories in their remaining matches against Accra Hearts of Oak, whom they face on Sunday, and Real Tamale United on the season’s final day. With 40 points from 32 matches, Olympics currently sit in 15th place on the league table, while Hearts are in 13th position with just one point more than Olympics.

The Phobians will conclude their season with an away fixture against Bechem United.

On the other hand, Dreams FC has climbed to 12th place with 42 points and has three matches left. The FA Cup champions will take on Accra Lions on Saturday, followed by an encounter with Real Tamale United in a rescheduled game on Wednesday. They will wrap up their season with a home match against Aduana Stars the following Sunday.
