The Sekondi High Court has lifted the injunction previously imposed on Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central.
The injunction had prevented Madam Cudjoe from participating in the upcoming parliamentary election.
Today’s decision comes after an earlier adjournment, during which the NDC appealed to the court to remove the injunction and dismiss the underlying disqualification case against their candidate.
This ruling follows the recent dismissal of an application by an Accra High Court, where the NDC attempted to halt the Electoral Commission (EC) from printing ballots and the notice of poll, aiming to protect Joana Cudjoe’s eligibility.
With this latest decision, the EC can now proceed with printing ballot papers and related materials, including Joana Cudjoe’s name.
After the court’s proceedings, Edudzi Tamakloe, counsel for the NDC, urged the EC to adhere to the court’s directive in preparation for the upcoming election.
“We are very pleased and we want to thank the court. The EC representative was in court, he is aware the court has vacated the injunction. Now that the injunction has been vacated, Madam Jean Mensa should do the right thing,” he said.
Following the court ruling, Joana Gyan Cudjoe expressed her joy and relief, describing it as a weight lifted off her shoulders.
She urged her supporters to ramp up their campaign efforts, aiming for a decisive victory on December 7.
“I’m incredibly grateful. I thank God and the party for stepping in to support me today. I’m coming home, and we’re going to prepare for our campaign,” she said.
