Illegal miners in Birim North have been served a 72-hour ultimatum to evacuate the area

The Birim North District Security Council has given illegal miners in the Akyem Ntronang enclave a stern warning, demanding that all galamsey activities cease within 72 hours.

Failure to comply will result in enforcement action by the security authorities. Additionally, the council has instructed the illegal miners to remove all mining equipment from their sites and vacate the community within the specified timeframe.

The directive from the security council follows recent protests by the chiefs of Akyem Ntronang against illegal mining activities in the community. Allegations were made against the District Chief Executive, Raymond Damptey, regarding involvement in these illegal activities, which he vehemently denied in a Citi News interview.

A letter from the district assembly, obtained by Citi News, revealed that the decision was made after community engagement and sensitization sessions with local leaders and residents, highlighting the extensive damage caused by illegal mining throughout the town.
