Dunkwahene Okoforobour Obeng Nuako III has voiced frustration over the ongoing illegal mining activities in the Offin River.
Once a crucial source of clean water and sustenance for Dunkwa-on-Offin residents, the river now suffers heavy pollution from illegal mining, or galamsey, operations.
Despite ongoing efforts to curb these activities, the Dunkwahene bemoaned the persistent environmental degradation and adverse impacts on local livelihoods.
During an interview with Adom News’ Mohammed Radiu Dinn Rasko at his residence, the Dunkwahene expressed frustration at the sluggish pace of court proceedings following the arrest of suspects involved in illegal mining. He called for expeditious and thorough investigations to be conducted.
He emphasized the importance of holding the perpetrators accountable for their actions and urged swift justice.
Additionally, the chief highlighted the crucial significance of preserving the Offin River for future generations. He appealed to Ghanaians to embrace a new mindset conducive to national development.
Okoforobour Obeng Nuako III advocates for a shift towards values such as hard work, discipline, and patriotism, believing that the current mindset is impeding the nation’s progress.
