Hopeson Adorye has been released by the Dansoman Circuit Court after meeting the bail conditions imposed upon him following his plea of not guilty to the charge of “publication of false news.”
The Court, presided over by Her Honour Halima Abdul El-Lawal Basit on Thursday, May 23, 2024, granted him bail in the amount of GH¢20,000 with two sureties. One of the sureties must be justified.
The 54-year-old businessman, reportedly a professional teacher, was apprehended following his self-confession of detonating dynamite in the Volta Region during the 2016 elections.
Her Honour Halima Abdul El-Lawal Basit, while granting bail, remarked that the prosecution possesses adequate resources to conduct further investigations.
During his court appearance on Thursday, May 23, he faced the charge of Publication of False News, contravening Sections 208(1) of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29).
EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, who attended the proceedings, reported that Hopeson Adorye was greeted with cheers by supporters of the Movement for Change, and powders were thrown on him.
He has since departed from the Court premises accompanied by his legal team, which includes Yaw Buaben Asamoa and Kweku Attakora Dwomoh.
His next court appearance is scheduled for June 26, 2024, for a case management conference.
