KNUST students petition management to review ‘70% fees before exams’ policy

A group of students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has petitioned the university management to reconsider its “70% fees before exams” policy, which mandates students to pay a significant portion of their academic fees before sitting for exams.

Introduced to ensure students commit to fee payments, the policy requires continuing students to settle 70% of their fees before taking exams, while first-year students must pay their full fees before sitting for exams.

Students argue that this policy violates their rights and poses a disadvantage to economically unstable students.

According to a petition seen Accra Live, students at KNUST are urging a review of the fee payment structure to permit payment of 50% of fees in the first semester, with the remainder due before the start of second-semester exams.

Additionally, KNUST’s SRC President, Yvonne Osei Adobea, has suggested that negotiations with management are underway to reconsider the directive.
