Despite concerns from some music fans about Kofi Kinaata’s previous lack of wins in the Artiste of the Year category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, the highlife musician remains optimistic about his chances in the future.
In a recent interview on Prime Morning on Joy Prime with Roselyn Felli, he acknowledged the pressure from his fans but expressed confidence that the award will eventually come to him at the right moment.
“I heard some of my fans talk about it but there is time for everybody. When the right time comes, it will happen,” he said.
Asked if he had not won the slot over the years because it was not his time he replied: “That is not the target. I just want to serve the people, I just want to give them songs that they can relate to. I just want to give them songs for every occasion, situation and condition.”
He cited his tracks ‘Effiakuma Love’ and ‘Effiakuma Broken Heart’ as prime examples of the diverse range of emotions his singles can evoke.
“When you’re in love you listen to ‘Effiakuma Love’. When you’re brokenhearted too you listen to Effiakuma Broken Heart,” he said.
In 2020, Kofi received his first nomination in the Artiste of the Year category at the Ghana Music Awards. He was nominated alongside Kuami Eugene, Diana Hamilton, Medikal, Sarkodie, and himself, Kofi Kinaata. Ultimately, the award went to Kuami Eugene.
This year, Kofi Kinaata has received nominations in three categories: Best Reggae Song of the Year (for ‘Effiakuma Love’), Best Highlife Song of the Year (for ‘Overthinking’), and Best Highlife Artiste of the Year.
Meanwhile, he has released a new song titled ‘Effiakuma Broken Heart’, which delves into the theme of disappointment in relationships.
