Mahama challenges Bawumia to pay NABCO trainees

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has directed criticism at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, regarding his recent claims of being dedicated to creating jobs for the youth.

Mr. Mahama voiced his skepticism about the NPP’s record on job creation, pointing to a history of unfulfilled promises.

During a campaign stop in Kwamikrom within the Biakoye constituency as part of his tour of the Oti Region, Mahama questioned the credibility of Dr. Bawumia’s assurances.

He specifically highlighted the situation of former Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) trainees, many of whom are still waiting for several months of unpaid allowances, questioning how Bawumia can assure job creation while these obligations remain unfulfilled.

Mahama urged Dr. Bawumia to prioritize addressing the outstanding NABCO debts before making new promises about job creation.

He emphasized that proving a commitment to meeting existing financial obligations to the youth is crucial for building trust in any future employment initiatives.

“The governing NPP promised to provide jobs for the NABCO trainees after completion. It has been over three years and that has not happened. The allowances they also promised them during the training have not been paid.”

“It is really sad because all attempts by the trainees to have their concerns addressed have been unsuccessful. If indeed Dr. Bawumia is committed to providing jobs for the youth, he should first address their concerns,” he stated.
