Mahama is Ghana’s best hope for a brighter future – Awuah Darko

Kwame Awuah Darko, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated that the NDC is providing Ghanaians the best option that guarantees a bright future for Ghanaians in the person of John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking to Julius Caesar Anadem on Ultimate FM’s Cup Of Tea, Awuah Darko drew attention to the current state of Ghana’s economy questioning the economic prowess of the Akuffo Addo – Dr. Bawumia administration.

“Our currency has plummeted from 2.75 cedis to the dollar to 17 and counting. Is that what we want? Untrained hands? Wasted hands? No! Ghana needs experience and wisdom to unravel this mess, and John Mahama is the only one equipped to do that,” he said.

He expressed disappointment in persons questioning the return of John Dramani Mahama to the presidential race.

Highlighting Mahama’s extensive experience; from serving as a parliamentary candidate, minister, and vice president to his tenure as president, Awuah Darko contended that Mahama is the most qualified leader to resolve Ghana’s current challenges.

“John Mahama’s wisdom and experience are required for the situation we find ourselves in. There is nobody with his track record

Responding to whether he was impressed with the NDC’s approach to the elections, Awuah Darko expressed confidence in the party’s efforts while emphasizing the critical importance of election-day vigilance.

“I think that we have done a lot of work. We have done a lot of campaigning. However, elections are about 18 hours—5 am to midnight—and we have to get every single hour of that time frame right,” he noted.

Awuah Darko cautioned the electoral commission to be minded of its roles to defend and represent the choice of the electorate devoid of any political biases.

“The people of Ghana are going to vote for us, but it is incumbent on us to ensure that the ballot and the entire process are protected. It is the will of the people that must be counted, not the will of some political actors,” he stated emphatically.

He argued that the 2024 elections go beyond political rivalry, instead addressing the urgent need for national progress.

For me, it’s not about the NDC or opposition—it’s about Ghana. Nobody can look me in the eye and say we haven’t gone backwards in the last eight years. We live in Ghana. There’s no human being in this country who wants to go backwards.

We want to move forward, to see improvements in our lives and economy, and to hear the truth from our politicians. This election is about resetting Ghana. We need to put the country back on the right track so that the lives of every Ghanaian, including the disabled, can improve,” he asserted,” he emphasized.

Awuah Darko pointed out that compared to the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, John Draamani Mahama brings on board years of experience and the benefit of observing from outside government, the failures of the NPP administration.

There is nobody with his track record—the experience of being president, losing elections, and watching another government mismanage his legacy.

With the greatest respect, anyone else is only coming to do trial and error. We’ve had trial and error for the past eight years, and look where we are now,” he stated.

Awuah Darko urged Ghanaians to pray for Mahama’s health and strength, describing him as the nation’s best hope for a brighter future. His remarks are likely to spark spirited debates as the 2024 general elections approaches.
