Police in Suntreso, Ashanti Region, have apprehended an individual for reportedly assaulting a Ghana Water Company Limited staff member during a disconnection procedure due to unpaid bills.
The alleged victim, Samuel Owusu Yeboah, was carrying out his routine duties of meter reading and bill distribution in Obronikrom, Kumasi, when the incident occurred on Friday.
Yeboah reported that the customer, identified as Amofa Francis, threatened to detain him unless he reconnected the water supply. This threat led to a physical altercation, resulting in the alleged assault.
Despite having an outstanding debt of 590, Francis expressed anger over the disconnection of his meter.
Yeboah sought assistance from the management at the Ashanti South Region of the Ghana Water Company Limited, who accompanied the police to apprehend the suspect.
