More than 150 homes in Gomoa Mampong were inundated following the obstruction of the main bridge by a contractor

More than 150 homes in Gomoa Mampong have been submerged due to a contractor, engaged in the construction of the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway, blocking the main bridge serving River Ayensu in the Gomoa East District.

River Ayensu, one of the largest rivers in the Central Region, originates from the Eastern Region, traverses the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway at Gomoa Okyereko, and eventually flows into the sea.

The contractor, involved in the road construction project, blocked the main bridge with the intention of constructing a modern bridge capable of accommodating the water volume effectively.

During an interview with Adom News, several residents reported that the river unexpectedly inundated the community around 2:30 pm today.

Presently, the majority of houses are submerged, and the main road is under threat.

Meanwhile, Robert Hackman, the Gomoa East District NADMO Director, disclosed that Gomoa Mampong, Gomoa Okyereko, and five other communities are facing imminent danger.

He urgently appealed to authorities to provide assistance to these affected areas.
