The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has vowed to establish processing plants in all districts that have a competitive edge in cultivating specific agricultural products as part of a comprehensive plan to enhance the agricultural sector in the country.
According to Dr. Bawumia, this initiative aims to complement the establishment of district agricultural mechanization centers, which will provide farmers with access to mechanized equipment for their farming needs.
During his address to stakeholders on the first day of his tour in the Ashanti Region on Monday, November 4, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that his government will prioritize agriculture.
“The number one priority of my government will be agriculture, the reason is that the majority of Ghanaians are farmers. Over 60% of the population are farmers, so if farmers are financially stable, Ghana will also prosper.
“I want to support farmers with finances, technologies, irrigation and expertise. Just like we did in the area of Planting for Food and Jobs, we want to continue in that regard. We will assist farmers who are into competitive crop cultivation with a processing facility.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia, who is concluding his constituency-specific tours across the country with his visit to the Ashanti Region, underscored the region’s significance to the electoral success of the NPP.
During his visit to Atwima Mponua, a mining community in the Ashanti Region, he shared details about plans for mining development in the area.
“We will help miners to mine in a responsible manner. We will let the Geological Survey detect where the gold is located through their map so that they [miners] don’t try and error. We will license mining as well so that you are not harrassed to stop work, but will mine responsibly.”
