Naadu Mills pays congratulatory visit to first family

Former First Lady Ernestina Naadu Mills Saturday visited the first family to congratulate President John Mahama on his victory in the December polls.

In a photograph released by the president’s close aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the former First Lady was flanked by President Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama as they smiled for the camera.

“The first family today received in their home, former First Lady Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills.

“Mrs Mills visited to congratulate President Mahama on his victory in the December 2024 election,” a write-up accompanying the photograph briefly read.

Mrs Mills has largely avoided the public eye since her husband, President John Atta Mills’ demise in 2012.

During her tenure as First Lady, she worked to ensure improved access and quality of education for underprivileged children. She also rolled out programmes aimed at enhancing girl child education in Ghana.

In her husband’s first year in office, she launched the Free School Uniform Initiative in collaboration with the Ministries of Education and Local Government, with the objective of distributing 1.6 million school uniforms to 77 deprived districts across the country.

She was the nation’s First Lady from 7th January, 2009 until 24th July, 2012 when Professor Mills passed away while in office.
