National Cathedral : We should have done better than what Ghanaians see – Suame MP

The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko has expressed his dissatisfaction with the scale of work on the National Cathedral project initiated by the administration of former President Akufo-Addo.

The cathedral is intended to be a monumental structure that will serve as a place of worship, national events, and religious ceremonies.

However, the National Cathedral project has been riddled with several controversies since former President Akufo-Addo pledged to build it to honor God. The National Cathedral, which has faced ongoing delays and budget overruns, has become a source of criticisms of corruption.

Speaking on GHOne TV with Lilly Mohammed, the MP addressed the significant financial investment in the project, acknowledging that a substantial amount of money has already been spent.

He, however, indicated that given the large sum of funds allocated, the results should have been more impressive.

“If the national cathedral had been moved to the outskirts of Accra, I’m not sure a lot of people would have had issues with it. I think we need to spread our city. We need to send some of these huge facilities out. We don’t have to get everything concentrated here in Accra.”

“At this point, if you look at what we have right now, I think a lot of money has gone in. I’m more of a technical person, so I’ve been able to really see how much they’ve invested. The amount spent is a lot of money, and they should have done better than what we see”.
