NDC calls on the government to address the congestion issues at Mallam-Kasoa-Winneba Junction

The Central Regional Communications Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging the government to adopt innovative solutions to address the traffic congestion caused by rain and construction in the Mallam-Weija-Kasoa area.

The worsening situation, exacerbated by heavy rains and ongoing construction, has led to chaotic traffic conditions, significant disruptions, and frustration for commuters.

In a statement signed by Ms. Gabriella Tetteh, the Regional Communications Officer, and shared with the Ghana News Agency, the NDC condemned the severe gridlock, labeling it as glaring incompetence on the part of the relevant authorities.

The Party called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, to promptly implement a comprehensive action plan to tackle the congestion. This plan should involve contractors establishing alternative routes to mitigate disruptions, while the Ghana Police Service deploys personnel to manage the traffic situation effectively.

The statement emphasized that the government’s response to the debilitating traffic congestion on the Kasoa-Winneba route has been ineffective.

The NDC highlighted that the persistent gridlock poses a significant safety hazard, causing unacceptable delays and economic hardship for motorists, commuters, and businesses alike.

The party strongly condemned what it perceived as blatant neglect of the Central Region populace and all affected commuters.

“The NDC expresses profound dismay at the woefully inadequate response of the Ghana Police Service in alleviating commuter distress. The absence of proactive traffic management strategies is utterly deplorable.

“The NDC demands immediate action from President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia,” the NDC said

The NDC reiterated its steadfast dedication to championing the interests of the Central Region and pledged to endure the ongoing challenges imposed by President Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia on its residents.

The recent significant gridlock on the Mallam-Weija-Kasoa road, which began after heavy rainfall around 4:00 PM on Monday, May 13, has caused considerable disruption. Residents have been forced to navigate through flooded streets to reach their homes.

Large trucks heading towards the Central and Western Regions have been observed parked along the roadside, with drivers resting in their seats.

Vehicles traveling from Kasoa to Kaneshie, Lapaz, and Dansoman also encountered difficult conditions.
