NDC PC for Effia, Abdul Majeed Dokurigu, Draws Large Crowd at Fitness Walk, Expresses Confidence in Victory

Abdul-Majeed Iddrisu Nassam Dokurig, the Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effia Constituency of the Western Region, seems to have won the support of the electorate in his area.

This sentiment is reflected in the large crowd that gathered during his electioneering campaign.

“He continues to pull the crowd in the constituency despite facing a stiffer challenge from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) which is currently holding the seat,” one of the constituents said.

While the NDC Parliamentary candidate’s campaign launch was deemed unprecedented in the last two weeks, his three-hour fitness event on Sunday, October 27, 2024, further solidified his status as the favorite among the Effia electorate for the upcoming December elections.

As expected, constituents showed up in large numbers, proudly donning NDC colors.

“This turnout can be described as an unpredictable mammoth crowd, people purely showing up for the exercise and showing the candidate true love” Yussif Baba Adam, an ardent supporter of the NDC, who has never seen this said.

Some observers compared his turnout to that of the NPP candidate Yaw Boamah, who held an event on the same day, concluding that Dokurig attracted a larger crowd. The open admiration and uncontainable jubilation displayed by constituents on Sunday morning led many to believe that power had indeed shifted in the Effia constituency.

The humble and approachable young politician received the blessings and support of former Minister of Information Kofi Totobi Quakye, who led the fitness event through the main streets of Effiakuma, Lagos Town, Tanokrom, Newsite, and Effia.

Another significant indicator of victory, according to the constituents, was a light downpour during the exercise, reminiscent of the rain that fell during the campaign launch two weeks prior.

After three hours of vigorous walking and exercising, accompanied by brass band music, dancing, popular party songs, and hiplife music, the crowd gathered at Effia, where they were addressed by the candidate.

In his speech, he highlighted three key issues that would be priorities for his administration as the next lawmaker for Effia.

He emphasized that these would include job creation to realize the 24-hour economy envisioned by President John Dramani Mahama.

To achieve this, he mentioned that an apprenticeship program would be introduced to help many youths in Effia secure jobs and build their futures under President John Dramani Mahama.

Additionally, he outlined his “Boss” acronym policy, which aims to target strategic investment areas, empowering both the youth of the Effia Constituency and women’s groups.

Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Nasam Dokurigu also noted that the establishment of the Women Development Bank (WDB) by President John Dramani Mahama, as part of his policy initiatives, would enable Effia to create a cooperative credit union to assist vulnerable groups and women in the constituency.

Ultimately, the historic health walk was characterized as peaceful and incident-free, despite the large turnout of electorates supporting the Parliamentary candidate.

About the Effia Constituency

The Effia Constituency was formed from the Effia-Kwesimintsim Constituency. Since its establishment, the NDC has never won either of the two seats.

Unfortunately for the NPP, the candidate who has consistently won the Effia seat, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Cudjoe, will not be on the ballot and thus will not contest in the upcoming elections.

This change follows his defeat in the NPP parliamentary primary, which was won by Patrick Yaw Boamah Nyarko.

Analysts suggest that the shift in momentum toward the NDC candidate is due to his roots; he was born and raised in Effia, unlike his opponent.

This background is seen as a significant advantage that could enable him to challenge the NPP effectively in the constituency.

Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Nasam Dokurigu is confident in his chances of winning the seat, citing his strong appeal within the constituency.
