NLC Obtains Court Order to Halt CLOGSAG Strike

The National Labour Commission (NLC) has successfully obtained a court order to halt the strike action by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG).

CLOGSAG initiated the industrial action after the expiration of an October 31 deadline for the government to fulfill their demands.

The strike follows a notice issued on October 23, 2024, in which CLOGSAG expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in finalizing a new salary structure for staff, which was expected to take effect from January 1, 2025.

In a statement, CLOGSAG stated that despite several meetings, the government has not made a concrete offer regarding their demands.

However, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission countered, asserting that CLOGSAG has yet to respond to the government’s proposed new salary structure that was presented to the association.

In an application filed on November 7, the NLC requested the Accra High Court to impose an interim injunction on the industrial action.

The court, after hearing the application, indicated that “the application is granted for 10 days and upon its expiration the Applicant will have to come back to court on notice.”
