The Krachi West Municipal Hospital in the Oti Region is facing a severe crisis due to persistent power outages that have plagued the facility.
Dr. Hilarious Gadze, the Medical Superintendent, disclosed that the hospital has spent nearly GH₵70,000 on fuel to keep generators running and maintain operations.
The situation has reached a critical point where hospital management has issued a warning that continued power outages may force them to shut down essential facilities such as the mortuary.
This potential closure would have devastating consequences for the local community, as the hospital serves as a crucial lifeline for many residents.
The power disruptions not only strain the hospital’s finances but also impact the quality of care they can provide to patients.
Dr. Gadze emphasized the urgent need for a reliable power source, as the hospital’s ability to operate essential medical equipment and deliver necessary treatments is compromised without it.
Ensuring uninterrupted access to electricity is crucial to sustain the hospital’s mission of delivering quality healthcare services to the people of the area.
He expressed concern that, with the situation worsening, the future of the Krachi Hospital remains uncertain.
He cautioned that unless the power outages are resolved, the hospital might have no choice but to consider closing down vital facilities, potentially impacting those in urgent need of medical care.
The Medical Superintendent has appealed to the government to intervene urgently and implement a sustainable solution to the hospital’s power crisis.
Meanwhile, Raphael Tumawu, the Administrator, informed Adom News that the ongoing power crisis has severely affected the hospital’s financial stability.
He explained that as a result of the power outages, three air conditioners that were repaired just a month ago are malfunctioning again.
He also revealed that the sterilizer in the operating theater has been affected, complicating the ability of medical professionals to address critical health conditions.
Mr. Tumawu has urged NEDCO and other relevant authorities to promptly intervene to protect the hospital’s finances and the well-being of its patients.
