REFORMERS JUDO CLUB HOLDS SUCCESSFUL MINI-CLUB TOURNAMENT IN ACCRA

The Reformers Judo Club has held a successful mini-club tournament for its members in Accra on Saturday, 30th November.

The event took place at the Ghana Prisons Training School, Roman Ridge in Accra.

The tournament which featured competitions from various weight classes began at 10 in the morning before coming to closure at 4PM.

The weight classes included below 60kg, below 66kg, and below 73kg in the senior men’s open weight category.

Other classes included in the men’s category included below 81, 90, and 100kg.

The women’s category saw competition for medals in the below 57, below 70, and below 73kg class.

The mini-tournament also featured keen competition in the junior boys and girls division.

Thomas Kobina won gold in the men’s below 60kg class, while Clinton Teye Gadugah and James Opoku earned silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the senior men’s below 66kg weight class, Frank Tekpor won gold, Eugene Boateng Mensah claimed silver and the bronze medal went to Agudo.

In the senior women’s below 57, 70, and 73kg open-weight category, Evelyn Enyonam Dzato won gold. The silver and bronze medals went to Grace Antonia and Emmanuella Tindan Wuni respectively.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Member of Parliament for *Tano North*, Hon. Freda Akosua Prempeh, lauded the organizers for organizing such an event for women to participate in.

“I think it’s a laudable initiative. Watching these young people, especially the women taking part in the sport. This is the first time I’ve had a close touch with judo, and I’ve really enjoyed it”, Hon. Freda Akosua Prempeh remarked.

“It’s a good start and we all have to support them. I will encourage parents to identify the talents of their wards and make efforts to nurture them. The media will have to help create the awareness for the sport to grow too”, she added.

President of the Ghana Judo Association, Mr Ken Arthur, was also present at the event and congratulated the participants for their efforts and discipline throughout the tournament.
