The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has renewed the curfew hours imposed on Alavanyo and Nkonya Townships and their environs in the Oti Region through an Executive Instrument.
The curfew hours will be from 6:00pm to 6:00am, effective Sunday, March 17, 2024.
The decision follows recent clashes in the areas, leading to the loss of lives among residents.
In a statement, he said the “government continues to express its appreciation to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area for their efforts in ensuring peace in the area and urges them to use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes.”
He also reiterated to residents of the two towns that a ban is in effect on all individuals from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within the towns and their environs. Any individual found in possession of such arms or ammunition will face arrest and prosecution.
