The Supreme Court has denied an application for certiorari filed by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The five-member panel, headed by Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, in a majority decision, affirmed the earlier judgment of the High Court.
Six years ago, a High Court in Accra dismissed a GH¢25 million defamation lawsuit filed by Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Kennedy Agyapong, and ordered the journalist to pay a cost of GH¢50,000.
Anas had accused the lawmaker of defamation, prompting legal proceedings that began in 2018. On Wednesday, February 28, the Supreme Court, in a majority decision, rejected the case.
Despite the request from Kennedy Agyapong’s lawyer for costs to be awarded against Anas, the Supreme Court declined to do so.
