The treason trial involving Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convener of the #FixTheCountry movement, has been adjourned to May 20th of this year.
The court was poised to address jurisdiction matters following a motion filed by the activist’s legal team, contesting the constitutionality of the charges. Additionally, an application was made to refer the issue to the Supreme Court.
Ahead of Monday’s session, Mr. Barker-Vormawor utilized his social media account to mobilize support from members of the #FixTheCountry movement to attend the court hearing.
However, the highly anticipated trial was postponed as the presiding judge is currently engaged in a training program.
Mr. Barker-Vormawor faces charges stemming from a social media post deemed by police investigators as intending to subvert the constitution of Ghana.
He was detained on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Kotoka International Airport upon returning to the country from the United Kingdom.
The case has been rescheduled to May 20, 2024, for the court to deliberate on its jurisdiction regarding the issue and potentially commence the trial.
