A violent clash at a galamsey site in the Ashanti Region between Chinese nationals and youth from Sekyere Krobo has resulted in injuries to two individuals.
The incident, which took place on Friday, has heightened tensions and raised concerns about the involvement of foreign nationals in Ghana’s small-scale mining sector.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation began when the Chinese nationals, reportedly operating an illegal mining site, refused to heed demands from the Sekyere Krobo youth to stop their operations.
The standoff escalated, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the two groups.
The identities of the injured individuals have not been disclosed, but they are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.
