By Akwasi Obempah, 35, the designated driver for Nana Mprah Besemuna Ill, Krachiwura, tragically passed away on Thursday. He is reported to have drowned in the Volta Lake at Krachi, situated in the Krachi West Municipality of the Oti Region.
Nana Ato Odyifase I, Akwamuhene of Krachi, who provided details to the Ghana News Agency, mentioned that the information available indicates the deceased departed from the palace on Thursday to clean the Krachiwura’s official vehicle at the old site before 7:00 a.m.
He explained that both the driver and the vehicle drifted into the river and submerged. Nana Akwamuhene mentioned that a search party, comprising the Marine Police, officials from the Ghana National Fire Service, the Military, and community divers, located the vehicle on the riverbed. They found the deceased beside it and successfully brought both to the shore.
The body of the deceased has been placed in the Municipal hospital’s morgue, and the Toyota V8 vehicle is currently in the custody of the Ghana Police Service. Nana Besemuna, also the President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, has reported the incident to the police.
A Police source confirmed the incident as investigations into the matter continued.
