Voter Registration Woes: New Juaben South Applicants Left Stranded Due to System Malfunctions

Prospective Voters Left in Limbo at New Juaben South Electoral Commission (EC) Office, Eastern Region, Due to Faulty Registration Machines.

Numerous individuals eager to register found themselves at a standstill as malfunctioning registration machines hindered their progress.

By 10:30 a.m., not a single individual among the early attendees had managed to complete their registration.

An air of frustration permeated the scene as stranded applicants voiced their worries about the prolonged delay and the lack of clarity regarding the registration procedure.

“I have been able to fill the form passed through the process but where they take the picture and upload into the system they say the system is down. It has affected me I even have to take my medicine so I have to go and find something to eat so that I take my medicine. So it has really taken much of my time “said Ayariga one of the applicants.

Kofi Asante Owusu, the Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission in New Juaben South, conveyed that the issue had been promptly reported to the headquarters, expressing optimism for a swift resolution.

The Electoral Commission’s scheduled limited voter registration commenced today, Tuesday, May 7, and is set to span 21 days, culminating on May 27, 2024.

This initiative primarily targets individuals registering for the first time and those seeking to obtain a voter card.

Nationwide, the registration endeavor aims to enroll an estimated 623,000 first-time voters.

Within New Juaben South, registration services are available at the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) center and are further extended through a mobile registration team catering to remote areas, alongside the Municipal officer registration centers.
