“Why does IMANI consistently resort to the media?” the Electoral Commission inquires

The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged policy think tank IMANI Africa to avoid immediately resorting to the media with their concerns regarding the electoral body.

Instead, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services, encouraged IMANI to utilize proper procedures and legal channels to address any grievances they may have.

Dr. Quaicoe made this statement during an appearance on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, on Monday.

“People must be patient to understand issues. Even if we have faulted, why do they always run to the media? Why the attacks in the media? There are procedures they can use to seek redress. The media attacks are unnecessary,” he lamented.

His comment comes in response to IMANI Africa’s social media and media reports about the discovery of 10 outdated biometric verification devices (BVDs) at a recycling facility in Madina.

Despite the Electoral Commission’s clarification that these devices were lawfully auctioned and were acquired prior to the 2012 elections, IMANI has minimized this explanation.

During the same program, President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, raised questions about the quantity of BVDs auctioned and the disposal process for the remaining devices.

He voiced apprehensions regarding the leadership of the EC and the transparency of its operations, alleging a consistent pattern of misconduct and dissemination of inaccurate information.

Mr. Cudjoe urged the media to delve deeper and obtain answers to the raised queries, emphasizing that the credibility of Ghana’s electoral process is in jeopardy.
