Afenyo-Markin Urges NPP Flagbearer Aspirants to Campaign with Discipline and Unity
The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has appealed to all presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct their campaigns with discipline, civility, and a strong sense of unity as the party heads into its primaries.
Speaking at a Peace Pact signing ceremony involving the five NPP flagbearer aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the future of both the party and the nation depends on maintaining internal discipline and mutual respect.
He stressed that party members must rise above short-term emotions and personal rivalries, urging aspirants to protect the unity of the party that has given them a platform and a voice.
“Our party depends on this, and Ghana is counting on us,” he stated.
According to him, the peace pact is not only about the January 31 presidential primary, but also about ensuring that the NPP remains strong, united, and credible in the eyes of Ghanaians beyond the primaries.
He warned that while a united party is formidable, division weakens its strength and harms national progress.
“This primary is about preserving the principles that made the NPP what it is,” he noted.
Afenyo-Markin cautioned aspirants against public confrontations, insults, and unsubstantiated allegations, explaining that such actions often become tools for political opponents.
“Every insult, every unproven allegation, and every attempt to demonize a rival today becomes a weapon in the hands of our opponents tomorrow,” he warned.
He further reminded party members that internal divisions during primary contests do not remain confined within the party but can negatively affect national governance.
“A fractured NPP does not only risk losing another election; it risks undermining the very progress our nation is striving to achieve,” he cautioned.
The New Patriotic Party has scheduled its presidential primary for January 31, 2026.
