Deputy Majority Leader urges KMA to enforce its by-laws on trading at unapproved places

Deputy Majority Leader Patricia Appiagyei has criticized the congestion in Adum’s Central Business District (CBD) in Kumasi, labeling it as a display of indiscipline.

She pointed out that concerns about potential electoral repercussions are hindering the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) from enforcing by-laws to clear unauthorized trading activities in the CBD.

During an interview on GhanAkoma with Kofi Asante, Mrs. Patricia Appiagyei, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Asokwa, appealed to city authorities to take proactive measures by enforcing existing by-laws.

She voiced concern over the increasing lack of discipline among traders in Adum’s Central Business District (CBD).

Hawkers have encroached upon the pavements in the area, obstructing the streets and causing congestion for both pedestrians and vehicles.

The Deputy Majority Leader expressed dismay at the inadequate management of the city and emphasized the need for action to address the situation.

She criticized officials of the KMA for the proliferation of illegal structures, particularly metal containers, which are occupying public spaces and streets in the city.

“We have no option than to decongest the city to ensure free flow of traffic. The congestion in the Central Business District is unbearable. The lawlessness and indiscipline are too much in the city at the moment”, she lamented.
