Government Pays Over GH¢4.40 Billion in SSNIT and Second-Tier Pension Obligations

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson says the government has paid more than GH¢4.40 billion to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and towards settling outstanding Second-Tier Pension obligations.

He said the payments would help safeguard workers’ retirement benefits and reaffirm the government’s commitment to responsible public financial management and the fulfilment of its financial obligations.

“Government has paid over GH¢4.40 billion to SSNIT and for Second-Tier Pension obligations,” Dr. Forson stated.

“This helps protect workers’ pensions and shows our commitment to managing public money responsibly and meeting our obligations.”

The announcement comes after the Finance Minister disclosed that the government had released GH¢24.8 billion to statutory funds since January 2026.

The funds were disbursed in full and on schedule to support key sectors, including education, healthcare, road infrastructure and local development.

Dr Forson said timely disbursement of statutory funds ensures that the relevant institutions have the financial resources needed to provide essential services and improve the lives of Ghanaians.
