Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has revealed that the completion of additional sea defence works in Axim, originally scheduled within two years, is expected to be delayed by six months due to interference from the local community.
Speaking during an inspection of the project, which began in 2025, the Minister emphasized that the works would significantly benefit local fishermen.
He noted that despite the commitment of the government and contractors, the frequent disruptions by residents are likely to slow progress.
“We might have to give them some extension. Basically, the delay might not be that of the contractors but of the folks around. They have been having some challenges with them; they even appreciate the work that is going on here for them to know when to enter the site and when not to enter the site, where to work, and where not to work.
“So far, our contractors and our hydro department have engaged with the community, and they keep engaging them to explain what is really going on on site to them,” he said.
