Bawumia inaugurates 124 homes in the Appiatse reconstruction project

Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has inaugurated 124 homes as part of the Appiatse reconstruction project.

The initiative was launched in response to the tragic events of January 2022, which resulted in the devastation of the community and the loss of 16 lives.

Expressing their gratitude, beneficiaries from phases one and two of the project expressed their satisfaction with the completed homes.

Following a period of hardship, Appiatse, situated between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region, has undergone a remarkable transformation.

More than 120 housing units have been constructed, offering renewed hope and a fresh beginning to the farming community, marking a significant milestone two years after the disaster.

In January 2022, a collision between a vehicle transporting approximately 10 tonnes of mining explosives to the Chirano Mines and a motorcycle resulted in the detonation of the explosives, devastating the entire community.

In the aftermath of the tragic incident, the government promptly initiated the reconstruction process, which has resulted in the completion of 124 housing units and ancillary facilities for the survivors.

The newly constructed homes, ranging from one-bedroom to seven-bedroom units, feature upgraded amenities such as a market, six-unit classroom and kindergarten blocks, internal roads, water and electricity supply, a drainage system, and a water storage facility.
