A 24-year-old tricycle, popularly known as a Pragyia, rider has been sentenced to three months in prison by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region for biting a Community Police Assistant (CPA) at Nkawie.
The accused, Abdul Aziz, pleaded guilty to a charge of negligently causing harm and was subsequently convicted on his own plea.
Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong, the prosecutor, told the court, presided over by Robert Addo, that the complainants in the case are officers of the Nkawie Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.
He said that on September 3, 2026, at about 8:40 a.m., the complainants, led by Chief Inspector Abedi Larbi, were on official patrol duties in Nkawie to ensure public safety when they intercepted the convict, who was riding a Pragyia tricycle with registration number M-25-A-3722.
He explained that following an inspection, the officers discovered that the convict did not have a valid driver’s licence and other required documents. Alhassan Seidu, the Community Police Assistant (CPA), was consequently instructed to escort him to the police office for further action.
On their way to the police office, the convict reportedly diverted from the designated route. The CPA therefore instructed him to proceed towards the police station, but he allegedly refused and attacked the officer, resulting in a struggle between the two.
During the struggle, the convict reportedly bit the CPA on the chest. The officer raised an alarm, attracting some nearby residents who rushed to the scene and assisted in apprehending the convict.
In his caution statement, he admitted the offence and after further investigations he was charged and brought before the court.
